Marg Gardiner, City of Victoria Councillor

About Marg

My journey with Victoria began in 2003, as my husband and I relocated from Saanich. I soon began attending community meetings and participating in projects.  I joined the James Bay Neighbourhood Association (JBNA) Board in 2006 as the Board sought renewal.

At the time, the community faced several challenges related to uses of industrial lands and impacts on the community.  With my education in the sciences and management, my regulatory experience work in food and product safety, and research administration, I was well suited to become the community lead on the VIHA initiated air quality project for James Bay.

With the help of involved James Bay residents and a supportive Board of Directors, we achieved a great deal together:

  • Forwarding community voices in land use discussions on City policy meetings, forums, and workshops, representing resident interests in growth and how it impacts housing affordability.
  • Facilitating community voices in development proposals through the CALUC process.
  • Forwarding the creation of a new neighbourhood park, Fisherman’s Wharf Park, and supporting community gardening.
  • Advocating for clean air on successful air quality projects.
