Good afternoon everyone,
For the last several weeks, the drug crisis and safety on our streets and parks have made the headlines. Today, the Times Colonist printed my Comment article on crime and disorder and the City’s recently released Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan (CSWB). CHEK news has also posted a version of my article. The article is printed below.
While you will be aware of the ongoing discussion, the following articles will add important background and further details.
- Victoria’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan
- Media reports on safety on our streets (including Globe&Mail, Times Colonist etc.)
- Media reports on the Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan
In the month ahead, significant reports will come before Council. One is the Victoria-Saanich Citizens’ Assembly report and another is the City’s proposed new look at parking. It is worth a quick read.
In early fall, the revised/proposed Official Community Plan will be before Council and the public. Staff will report back on the costs expected for implementation of the CSWB plan, and staff will submit the first draft of the 2026 budget.
I hope you have a relaxing summer.
Best wishes to all.
